Will HSBC go back to Asia?
SHARE

After the great noise, the speeches, the accusations against HSBC in the Swiss tax evasion story, time has come for the former Hong Kong and Shanghai banking corporation to consider its future. Many inside and outside the bank believe that it should move the bank to Asia. Is it to Hong Kong; is it to Singapore?

There are good reasons and bad reasons. The bad reason is that the recent crisis has given HSBC a bad image. Whenever somebody wants to be nasty on the banks he quotes HSBC. He’s wrong. But it happens.

The good reason is that the future of big financial business is in Asia. No other bank in the world has the past background that HSBC possesses. Of course there is Standard Chartered. But it is much smaller.

Whatever HSBC does, it’s hers to do.
